Last week Paul Pogba joined Manchester United from Juventus Turin for a fee of €105M, beating the previous transfer record set by Gareth Bale (€101M) three years ago. The French creative midfielder not only became Jose Mourinho’s most important signing this summer, but also came back to the club that he left four years ago, largely disappointed by Alex Ferguson not giving him a chance to shine. Pogba was by then worth €3.5M and switched to Juventus – a deal handled by Mino Raiola.
Raiola is one of Europe’s two most influencial football agents – together with Jorge Mendes, who had done many deals worth tens of millions with Mourinho previously. But this summer it was Raiola who earned €25M for brockering Pogba’s move to United. He also secured a contract at the same club for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who decided to leave PSG and at 34 plays his first season in Premier League. And for Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who joined from Borussia Dortmund for €42M.
According to ‘Daily Mail’, Raiola already invested a big part of his share in these deals in a Miami Villa owned previously by Al Capone. The Italian agent who grew up in the Netherlands himself became a kind of football star and appears in Guardian as well as many other British titles. This seems to be the best summer of his professional life.
